Carruthers were at one time an extremely powerful and landed family, smaller than some in Annadale but larger than others. Here is a map with shows some, but not all of the holdings of Carruthers, although it is a good indication of the lands that we had.
It is also important to recognise that, although Carruthers were senior members of the garrisons in Lochmaben and Threave Castles, we never owned them nor called them home in that sense, and never owned Cumlongan Castle either.
Further Carruthers only owned what was classed as 1/3rd of Castlemilk lands and although marked, we could not make claim to ownership of it all.
